Hello faithful readers, (all 6 of you :D)
It's been a while since last I wrote to you. I spent three weeks in the states over the holidays, and after I came back from my holiday I was quite busy.
As the headline says I have finished my first semester in the Croaticum program at the university of Zagreb, and I'm happy to say that I received an equivalent of an A (5 here in Croatia). The program is absolutely excellent, with great teachers and curriculum. I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in learning Croatian or looking for a reason to spend a semester or two in Zagreb. Here is the link to their website with all the information: http://croaticum.ffzg.unizg.hr/
With time, and help from my girlfriend, her family, and friends I have made here I am finally adjusting to life here. I found it pretty tough at first because I didn't really understand the reasons behind some of the cultural differences. My girlfriend found a great, well-written blog by another American living here who really cuts to the heart of some of the major cultural differences between Croats and Americans, and does so in a very funny and concise manner. I highly recommend this as well: zablogreb.blogspot.com
I am currently busying myself with writing my science fiction story, reading A LOT. I also obtained my second Boravak (Residence permit) which took much less time than the first as I knew where to go and who to talk to. M.U.P. (Administrative/police station) is pretty intimidating at first, but once you get used to waiting and making a thousand copies of everything and generally running from person to person for different papers it's not so bad ;D.
I hope to update this blog more often
Best wishes
-Chris
